Artists in Mali:

  • Ismael Diabaté

Diabaté expresses Malian culture at the international level. The artist works on two levels with the union of art at his own culture while picking up modern forms. The canvases dialogue with the viewer, shapes and colors (obtained by materials and plants), plunges into serenity, a universe relative to the artist. The pen and brush are his painting tools. He has resumed the innovative technique of Jackson Pollock "dripping", which was to pay the paint on the canvas (laid on the ground) with a holed pot. Diabaté borrows another technique more traditional such as Bogolan (dyeing the fabric). (Description authorized by the author, Bamako, February 2008)

      - Sacred writings
      - Activists in 1991

  • Mamadou Traoré

36 years old from the Senufo ethnic. Heir to know-how for several generations, in 1993 he specializes in the artistic Dogon doors sculpture. In 2002, more independent he decided to abandon sculpture and engage in painting, an art that interested him since childhood. He manages to live in his paintings. Those that we will present in our event are called:

      - Dama dance
      - Dogon healer
      - Triple of the world
      - Search for Peuhl
      - Dogon drought

  • Souleymane Goro

Born in 1953 in Dinangourou - Mali, he ran the workshop for research and training on the technique of bogolan at the National Institute of Arts in Bamako. It is part of the Bogolan Kasobané group expressing through the Bogolan technique: painting on plant tissue. But his work is far beyond the traditional Bogolan. While this support, colors, working tools and the manufacturing process remains essentially the same, it should be noted that on a technical level, the group has made a Kasobané innovation in the compositions, graphics, in the range and the colors used in the presentation of works.
